Purify reduces steady or slowly changing background noise with automatic spectral profiling, a direct Amount control and three frequency-emphasis controls.
1. Introduction and Compatibility
Purify is designed for dialogue, vocals, voice-over, podcasts, field recordings and other material affected by continuous background noise. It is not intended to repair clicks, clipping, distortion, room reflections or isolated edits. Mono and stereo audio are supported; stereo channels keep independent noise references and gain-reduction measurements.
| Platform | Formats | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | VST3, Audio Unit (AUv2) | Universal Apple silicon/Intel; macOS 11 or later |
| Windows | VST3 | 64-bit Windows host |
Purify is an audio effect and neither accepts nor generates MIDI.
2. Processing and Quick Start
Purify analyzes the signal in the frequency domain and automatically learns a background-noise reference from roughly the first 1.5 seconds of incoming audio. The reference then adapts slowly, resisting rapid changes from wanted program material.
- Insert Purify and start playback in a representative section.
- Allow the automatic reference to form, then raise Amount from 0%.
- Add Low, Mid or High only where noise still needs attention.
- Compare with Bypass and reduce settings if detail, ambience or naturalness is affected.
3. Controls and Meters
Amount is the 0–100% master reduction control. Low, Mid and High are not EQ bands: they add overlapping frequency-dependent emphasis to the reduction already set by Amount and cannot reduce on their own when Amount is zero. The approximate blend regions are 200–800 Hz and 2–8 kHz.
Each channel has a G input meter (approximately −60 to 0 dB) and a GR reduction meter (up to 30 dB measured reduction). Stereo readings may differ. Bypass clears and hides the meters.
Drag a knob up/down, use the mouse wheel for increments, or double-click to reset to 0%. The rounded readout shows whole percentages while the parameter supports finer host automation.
4. Bypass, Noise Profile and Project State
Bypass outputs an internally delayed dry signal aligned with the processing path, while preserving control values. Purify reports its processing latency to the host.
The plug-in learns automatically when an instance has no valid profile. Begin with representative audio; noise-only material is helpful but not required. The project state stores Amount, Low, Mid, High, Bypass, the instance size and a valid mono/stereo noise profile. A layout change or invalid stored profile starts a new learning stage automatically.
5. Settings, Licensing and Interface Size
Click AliasingLabs to open Settings; click it again or press Esc to return. Settings shows the product/build version, license or trial status, remaining trial time where applicable, ACTIVATE or DEACTIVATE, SIZE and a website link.
To activate, enter or paste the Purify license key and select Activate. Read the displayed status for invalid keys, device limits, unavailable servers or product mismatch. DEACTIVATE releases the current licensed device. Never send account credentials to support.
SIZE choices are 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200%. Size changes only the fixed square interface, not audio processing.
6. Workflows, Troubleshooting and Support
Set all three emphasis controls to 0%, find the best overall Amount, then add only the spectral emphasis still needed. Use modest Amount for music, preserve breath and air on vocals, and check changing backgrounds across an entire field recording. Compare loud, quiet and exposed passages before rendering.
- No reduction: verify an active license/trial, Bypass off, Amount above 0% and completion of the initial learning stage.
- A band seems inactive: Amount must be above zero.
- Dull or watery result: lower Amount first, then the strongest emphasis control.
- Missing from the DAW: install the correct platform build and rescan VST3/AU in a compatible host.
- Activation fails: read the exact status, check the full key, network connection and device availability.
